[Trader Joe’s] Baked Onion Rings

Today, we are reviewing Trader Joe’s Baked Onion Rings.

You shoud be able to find it at your local Trader Joe’s at $1.99 a bag (6.5 oz).

We want to call it a Vegan Funyuns on a sweet side.

Yum or Yuck?

Here are some close ups:

As you can see, texture of Baked Onion Rings are almost like Funyuns, but thicker. It is dairy free, gluten free, and vegan. However, Baked Onion Rings are 10 calories higher per serving size (1 oz) than Funyuns.

Let’s look at the packaging:

His Review: Personally, I’ve had better healthy chips.  The good thing about it, is that it’s something to snack on when you’re hungry and get your mind off of doritos and cheetos for a short period of time :-).  One thing I realized about these onion rings is that it was somewhat sweet.  The only sweet chips I like are BBQ chips.  Mainly, my favorites are chips that are somewhat salty/cheesy.  Like Doritos, Cheetos, Sunchips and etc.  Overall, I would probably not buy this ever again.  I would rate this a 2 star ★★☆☆☆.

Her Review: I enjoyed the onion and slight garlic flavor but did not care for the sweetness of the chips. It was little too sweet for my taste. I was expecting mild-mid sweet bbq and strong onion, but this had strong sweet and mid onion flavor. I was hoping it to be like Funyuns and if you are expecting it to be just like Funyuns, I don’t think you would like it. Value wise, this is definitely better value than Funyuns. You get 6.5 oz of Baked Onion Rings for $1.99 ($0.30/oz), compared to Funyuns are 1 5/8 oz $1.09 ($0.67/oz).

My final verdict? Even though it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever eaten, I would not purchase it again. I would give it a 2 star ★★☆☆☆.
